Hey girl! Wanted to drop by and say hi and see what's going on. Never a dull moment, eh?...lol. Was 'Shamness' on a t-shirt or did I totally misunderstand? The latter is always a likely possibilty...lol. Hope you have a great weekend.

Screwed up royally on one part but did enjoy a few snifters of Irish Cream afterwards to reward my self...lol. Hope you have a great week!

hi Moony ~ My blog isn't really a debate forum for religious opinions...so I never posted your last comment, for that reason alone. Keeping the peace. God Bless.
So yesterday, for the first time in about two years, we finally saw Harry & the Potters again, along with Uncle Monsterface & Math the Band at the Unlimited Enthusiasm Expo/ Camp Jump & Yell! Filmed a lot of it, & my head & legs hate me a lot right about now, but am oddly awake now. (And listening to HatP's most recent CD.) But, all things considered, am not going to give an in-depth recount (as if anybody cares; hehe), just that... it was brilliant. Balloons, inflatable lobsters, guitars, & dragons, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, the Goonies, & three bands... all from 7-11 in DC in a surprisingly well-ACed & spacious club. (Which is good.)
Role-playing is far too much fun. The highlight of my day; heheh. (I realize just how sad that sounds, but... yeah.)
Am tired. Actually woke up at eleven something (am) yesterday, & didn't go back to sleep for the entire day. And talked to Lauryll & it was kind of normal. : )
It would be really nice if my parents would trust me to be able to eat a piece of toast on my own. Seriously, mother, i am not a two-year-old. I can eat toast without choking, thank you very much. Am so sick of this kind of crap. I'm not an infant; i can do things on my own. Am so sick of coddling & overprotectiveness &... just crap overall. But this is not for here. Am done with spewing crap online. It's so narcissic &... not private. Thus, am done with spewing every little thing out online.
But. In other words, the day was spent at Maggie's with Maggie (duh), James, Monica, Tim, Nathaniel, Tom O'Sullivan, Janna, & Rita. There was a fort, made by Nathaniel, Janna, & James while everyone else was out (i just kind of sat there & was useless, as per usual); it was dubbed Fort Awesome. Nathaniel, James, Janna, & i became the Row, Row, Row Your Boats. Maggie & Rita came back from dropping Tom off at his house & we all were kind of taken by surprise, since we were in our fort & the lights were off & it was getting dark out.
And Mike Rowe graduated from Towson University, as did TNG's Lt. Barclay & the guy who is the voice of Elmo. That gives Towson some slight plusses. (Mike Rowe!)
I need to post less. Was doing fine for a while there, but now... Bugger.
....Need to finish RotK & start all over again! Have been neglecting LotR for far too long.
Honestly, i wasn't really all that worried/ aggravated by the new movie off of Brideshead Revisited, but after reading the little bit of an article about it in the July issue of Elle magazine... i kind of had to beat the magazine against the wall. They're ruining it, & it especially irks me how they are sticking Julia everywhere. She's not supposed to be in Venice, or at Brideshead when Sebastian breaks/twists/does whatever to his ankle!
It sounds like they're just completely changing the ideas of the book-- especially when it comes to the religion aspect; Waugh will be turning in his grave-- & it gives the distinct impression that they have very little respect for those. Making Lady Marchmain out to be a monster-- i mean, i didn't really like her, but making her out to be some sort of monster just is wrong. "Poor Mummy" indeed.
And to cut out the whole whatever thing with Charles & Sebastian & just making Sebastian gay... To take out that relationship is just so stupid, & to just come out & decide to make Sebastian gay just takes away the ambiguity of his & Charles' relationship; it cheapens the story somehow, makes it more shallow. It aggravates me that it's just focusing on Charles & Julia's relationship because "Sebastian was the first." It makes me want to hate Julia, & i never really hated Julia. Not my favorite character, but i didn't hate her, & i don't like how drastically they're changing things, especially by making her this central thing, by having her everywhere, by making only her & Charles matter, instead of having both the relationships & keeping it as layered a story as it ought to be.
I mean, at least when PJ made LotR, even with drastic changes (Arwen at the Ford, Frodo showing the Ring (wtf), Frodo & Aragorn's characters being slightly uncanon (read: watered down & kind of wimpy at points)), one could tell there was still care & respect for the original story. But with this, it feels like they're taking Waugh's writing & twisting the story to their own ends, especially (once again) regarding the religion angle. Personally, i don't think Waugh's idea of religion comes across too well-- i think it's more a negative aspect in the book-- but it's wrong to just take a whole different spin on it. It's like they're trying to cater to their audience too much, by changing bits of the story to suit what the audience wants, as opposed to sitting them down & saying, "This is how things are in the story, so deal." I mean, is Cordelia even in there? Are they going to ruin her character, since she was so pious in the book?
It seems like the movie's deviating from the book about as much as Stardust, only this time without any author's blessing (because Gaiman & Vess didn't seem all that upset by the changes).
...And yes, movie Frodo & Aragorn kind of bother me. Frodo, not so much as Aragorn. They could've at least kept in Frodo lunging the Witch-king at Weathertop. Aragorn bothers me, though. In the book, he's more than ready to reclaim the throne of Gondor; he wants to go there. He has Andúril from the beginning, & he names the reforged Narsil that. As opposed to the movie version, who is extremely wishy-washy about going to Gondor, doesn't get the sword till the last movie & Elrond names it. For some reason, that bothered me. It's more significant in the book: the sword is reforged, & the heir from a line thought to be broken takes it up & renames it the Flame of the West. That means something. The way it's done in the movie takes that away. Why should Elrond Half-elven, who will soon be leaving Middle-earth, name the sword of the king?
That whole bit bothers me. The whole "Arwen's-fate-is-tied-to-the-Ring" is absolute BS. There's no reason for her life to be connected to the thing; it's like some story movie Elrond came up with to get movie Aragorn to get his act together. And Elrond's whole behavior throughout the movies towards Aragorn is irksome, because he's so hostile to him, which never happened in the books. And quoting Aragorn's dying mother at him? That's... just... rude, Peredhil. Seriously. Part of it is, "Oh, that's nice, they put in something from the Appendices," but the other part is, "That was kind of low."
I liked how he acted more when he was in a kind of very Aragorn mode in the movies: when he was out doing things, & especially at the Paths of the Dead, he seemed more like Aragorn. It's not like Aragorn never had moments, but they upped it far too much in the movies. When he, Legolas, & Gimli finally decide to set off after Merry & Pippin, he looks back towards Gondor once they reach Rohan, & essentially sings a song about his longing to go there. He's not sitting around feeling angsty & unsure, at least not openly. He sees his own task in front of him; he knows what he has to do, & is eager to do it. Maybe they thought it would make him more relatable, or give his character more of a "journey" (like they said they wanted to do when they changed Faramir), but he just comes across as... not very Aragorn. It's like it's not really until he goes to the Paths of the Dead in the movie that he starts acting like Aragorn. Granted, i really liked how Viggo Mortenson played Aragorn; i thought he was brilliant & fit him extremely well. It's just how the script was.
....And the whole "set aside the ranger" thing? Whatever happened to that little bit at Isengard, when Merry says "look, Strider the Ranger is back" when Aragorn sits back & smokes & replies with something like, "He never left"? That also bugged me, because it was the whole "make a choice" thing when there really wasn't much of a choice to be made. (At least to me.) The Palantir (& the "i" needs an accent, but for some reason everytime i try that ALT code, the internet leaps back a page instead of putting in the accented "i") thing bugged me, too. One never knows what really happens in the book, except that Aragorn looks extra tired afterwards, so maybe it would be conceivable that Sauron decided to play mind games, or showing Aragorn things that he could take the wrong way. It's conceivable that Aragorn could have wavered or weakened-- after all, it's him against a Maia-- but this doesn't seem to fit the character as he is in the book canon. At least, not to the extent of how he reacted in the movie. While it does seem like something Sauron would do-- actually, it is something Sauron did, to others-- it still feels wrong, somehow. I like not knowing, the way it is in the book. It causes you to draw your own conclusion. (Nevermind the fact that he was supposed to look into it at Helm's Deep.)
Which, actually, is something filmmakers don't have people do much anyone. Having them draw their own conclusions. Nowadays, everything is shown. There's not much of the kind of "fill in the blank" that was especially present in older movies. One could argue that it has to do with censorship. But leaving certain things to a person's imagination can be much more worthwhile, because everyone comes up with something different, & could probably come up with something more intense or interesting than what is depicted onscreen.
It's kind of like something Bynum handed out once in Telemedia; though it was about making comics, it still applied to making movies. Right at the beginning, it has a little thing drawn out: the first panel is of two characters; one is going to kill the other. In the next panel, the city at night with the dying man's screams. The little character guy explaining things along the way pops up & informs you that you have just helped to murder a man in the space between the two panels. By not showing the murder, the viewer is the one who put two & two together, the viewer is the one who committed the murder, & each viewer has their own idea of how it happened. That is far more effective than showing a gore fest. That, you can just look at & feel ill over, or, from seeing it so much, shrug & say, "What else is new?" By not showing it, everyone watching/reading/whatever has a hand in the death & comes up with their own private ideas of what occured, which, being completely personal, can be worse than anything anyone could show onscreen. Same goes for anything else.
If someone were to actually make a horror/terror movie by using that, it could be much more effective than gore if done right, because everyone in the audience would come up with their own private terrors & monsters. What you can't see can be the most terrifying thing. Maybe Psycho is a good example? The murder scene is shown, but still in an ambiguous way: enough to actually really seriously make you paranoid in the shower. (Don't laugh, it's true.) But you don't have everything shown until everything comes together at the end, which makes it all the more potent. It heightens the anxiety in a way that some gory movie can't.
In other news, it's been really nice & cool lately (stay this way forever, weather), Ghost Hunters got some amazing evidence on last night's episode (EVPs & stuff on the thermal, plus that loud bang), i rediscovered my Barbie Rub & Color, & put another moth back outside. It was a big one, too, & very fuzzy.
Really want to do something. Just want to do things.
I got a Digimon moodtheme for LJ & finally got it to work! Huzzah. \. ./
If i had money to spare, i would spend forever in an Asian supermarket. Went to one Saturday; it's near enough to where i live that i could conceivably walk to it, if i felt so inclined. At first, it seemed a flop, until, of course, we (being me, my brother, father, & uncle) happened upon the junk food aisle (of course). And then there were a lot of other things, too. I bought a bottle of orange Ramune, Lemonmint water (which is from California; it's all in English & it's almost gone... i've been abstaining from it because i want it to last), & Yomogi Daifuku, which is really good &, as chance would have it, traditionally a Spring thing (according to Wikipedia, because i am just that lazy). Really good, but a lot of calories for such small little things. Then again, guess they actually do things in Japan. Running to school or work, getting squeezed onto crowded buses, smacking hentai, running from giant monsters battling in their cities... (Ho, ho.)
Oh, & on Thursday, at Towson, we ran into Carver people. At first it was Darrell (xD), Micheal (? that is his name, right?), Brian, & maybe Justin B., who all snuck up from behind on James & said hi. Then, when we were walking through the garage to Barnes & Noble, Dan was walking the opposite direction & was waving at us & we all said hi. Monica said, "It's like you guys are popular." Or something to that effect.
Look!:
...why must the scanner hate my Polaroids? Oh well.
Got to go over to Maggie's yesterday, which was ace. There were three other people there; we decided to go up to Towson &, thankfully, one of Monica's friends dropped by so we had two cars as opposed to squeezing everyone into one (like sardines). We basically ran around Towson for a while before going back to Maggie's. Maggie was trying to get rid of some manga she wasn't reading anymore, & she gave a lot to me. It went something like this:
"Do you want (name of manga here)?"
"Well..."
"Yeah, you do, here you go." (throws onto bed) "How about this? Yeah you do." (throws onto bed)
(looking at profusion of manga) "Holy crap. I feel bad."
"Why? Here, let me get you another bag."
(nervous cat bites my hand & hisses)
So i have a lot of manga. Among them, almost all the Saiyuki manga & all the Juvenile Orion manga. Eheh.
And yet neither of us have seen the last Dragon Knights manga, so no spoiling, because i want to be able to find out how it ends on my own, by actually reading it.
Yesterday was the MD Faerie Festival, & i went on my own. Which wasn't so bad. What was the near killer of all was the absymal heat. No idea what yesterday's high was, but i'd guess that it had to be somewhere in the upper nineties; pushing for 100. At least, that's how it felt, with high humidity & no cloud cover. Welcome to a Maryland summer: humidity & heat. And the blazing sun explains why i currently look vaguely like a lobster.
At first, it didn't seem too bad, but bad enough to take off a sweater & figure you could use it later for arm coverage. Went over to the Faerie Magazine booth (i'm so predictable) & they let me have last summer's issue. I asked "are you sure," & somehow the woman & i got into a conversation about people chasing each other in slow motion because of the heat. Mrs. Cross remembered me from 07's Spoutwood Festival. Got to (finally) see a BOG march. Wandered around some more before noon, when i went to see if they needed any volunteers yet. They did, in the kid's section, so went down there.
Basically, it's a crafts area, where people could buy things to decorate on tables placed underneath tents. I just had to collect the money from them (more like their parents, most of the time).
A testament to how hot the day was: you could sit around, doing nothing, & still feel hot. Eventually the lady i had relieved came back & asked if, were i to go get lunch now, i could come back to help with kid's games at 1:30. I said sure, & went & got a smoothie & wandered a little, before heading back. A guy with two kids in tow-- his kids? grandkids? No idea-- had appeared, who was supposed to be in charge of the games. They were equipped with spray bottles coupled with fans from Disney World. I got sprayed a bit-- actually, quite a few people were armed with spray bottles, & got sprayed throughout the day, which never ceased to feel a little awkward & obligatory. But the guy & i ended up talking; he asked where i went to school. I told him, & gave the usual "it's-weird-&-they-care-too-much-about-sports" thing, & he said something about things having to come from here, "this chakra," he said-- & he touched my stomach, which made me feel a little (a lot) weird. I just nodded & pretended i knew what he was talking about. Meanwhile, was feeling extremely dizzy & nearly ill.
We were let go because after consideration, doing anything with kids in the heat was stupidity. So went back up to the front & got my entrance fee returned (for volunteering) Forget what i did until after i had been sitting down, walked around, then sat down at a stage-- & noticed my sweater was missing.
So went around, trying to find it, & was unsuccessful. Checked at the front for a lost & found. They said they would basically be it, but they didn't have it. At this point, felt very much like death, so one of the woman told me i could go in the building that was for staff, where it was ACed & there was water. I guess they assume that most visitors have their rides at the ready, so they can more easily decide to leave the festival, whereas volunteers, vendors, & other staff members are pretty much stuck (though a lot of vendors were leaving very early; heard some other vendors discussing it) until the end. So went in there for a short while & had some water before going back out to look, & was unsuccessful once again. So i didn't really get to see Gypsy Nomads like i'd wanted, because i had to find my sweater. Eventually went back to the building, because the heat was completely unbearable. There was more water, & had little mini things-- mini chocolate crullers, a mini muffin, a mini bagel-- & a bag of chips, & stayed in there for a longer while before going back out again. And was starting to get a headache.
More wandering & looking for the elusive sweater. People with spray bottles spraying me & making me feel bad. By this time, i was probably already well-cooked by the sun. I was wearing a long skirt (good thing it was long) & a tanktop, so my shoulders got the brunt of the burning.
After a point, i just muttered, "All i want is to find my sweater." Walked a ways, & there, sitting next to a pole of a tent, was the elusive sweater.
"Did someone find this?" I asked the women of the booth. They didn't know, & i picked it up, being rather overly happy. I told them they could say how weird i was after i'd gone. It was more than a little awkward-- showing up & leaving abruptly-- but i was glad i'd found my sweater.
Went & saw Mythica play & bought one of their CDs, Vicarious, which is pretty ace; there's some underlying darker tones in some of the songs. Like the cover, too, though Melissa (the lead vocalist) admitted to having bought it off a stock photo site or something. Heh, whatever, i still like it.
That was pretty much the end, after that. Parents picked me up & had to stop at Trader Joe's, but got home & showered before a brief storm passed through. Huzzah. This was seriously one of those days i usually would never be out in. Hence the sunburn. I never get sunburned, so this is my first serious burn. I can tell it's serious, because it's bright pink. My face was the only thing that had some line of defense, because the moisturizer has SPF in it. It still got burnt, but not as badly as my arms, & definitely my shoulders. My arms feel like they ache; can't figure out if that's because of the burn...? It feels like muscles aching, though. It's just weird. And it really kind of sort of hurts. And feel exhausted, despite having, essentially, taken a two hour nap after said shower. So i'm blaming any typos on that.
Thankfully, the Festival's back in May next year. Seriously, compared to being in the upper 90s heat, volunteering for Zero Waste is just "whatever." Somehow, sorting through trash doesn't seem half as bad as feeling extremely "i-just-may-pass-out" hot. But, apparently, i am not one for passing out.
There's a lot being left out... why am i typing this? It seems kind of dumb. Took a few pictures; not a lot, & nothing really amazingly stellar by a long shot. Don't feel like fixing their size & uploading them right now, though, because that will take too long & require attention.
And today is Janna's birthday party, so need to cover up her present accordingly. Hopefully her house will be freezing.
Seriously, this is brilliant. Now if only i could watch them at home... maybe i should start hording before, i don't know, someone completely lame decides to make the uploaders take them down.
....so far as i am concerned, the very end of 02 never happened. And neither did anything after that. "One & two didn't really happen" my... (grumblemuttermumble)
Need to find a way to get out of this house. Want to go do something. Am sick of only going to stores; everything's money, money, money... Would rather go somewhere interesting. Though not sure what that entails. Went to Ft. McHenry this past weekend; that was interesting (though still $7 to get in. But it was interesting is the point. A little sad, too).
Nobody calls me though, & don't like trying to call people anymore because they're never there or available. Anyone in the area who wants to do something...? ._. (Who has a car...? Though gas prices are ridiculous.)
And am always hungry. It's annoying. Now want to eat an absurd amount of toast. Have some quizzes:

Music:Ce He Mise le Ulaingi? The Two Trees-- Loreena McKennitt
It's a sad day when even an established corporation-- & thus something that one would assume to be at least somewhat smart-- cannot distinguish between "its" & "it's." Honestly, it is not that difficult. I'm horrible with grammar & even i know the basics.
Ninety-five dollars for the room for Otakon by July 7th. Damn.
Despite misgivings about public transportation (not that i've ever used it), am seriously considering it, though don't know where i'd go, nor do i know any of the routes. One way is over a dollar; have no money on me. A job would be extremely helpful right about now. Or being commissioned or having something bought off of me, though hopefully certain stores will aid me in that regard.
...simply posting because it's the first of June. Stupid reason, & i don't even like summer, but there you are. MD Faerie Festival this Saturday (going alone, which should prove interesting. I don't mind), then Janna's birthday party Sunday (need to get her something).
Movie & book meme stolen from Orangeblossom:
Name a movie that you really wish would be re-made so they’d get it right.: Dracula. At least keep the modifications minor (like get rid of the whole "women are weak" bullshit). No Mina loving Dracula, no Seward being anyone's father (because that is very, very weird).
Name a book you’d like to see made into a movie.: Charles de Lint's Moonheart & Samantha Hunt's The Invention of Everything Else.
Name a book you hope is never made into a movie, because they’d ruin it.: ...Contradicting the last statement, Moonheart & Invention of Everything Else, simply because they're told in layers that would be difficult to translate onscreen, i think. Especially the latter; some things you just need to read, as opposed to seeing in a movie.
Name a stage show (musical or not) you hope is never made into a movie, because they’d ruin it; or that you wish had never been made into a movie, because they did ruin it!: N/A.
How often do you watch movies at home, as opposed to in the theatre? (The other half of the original question!): Comapred to going to the theatre, much more. But overall, i think i watch TV a lot less than the "average" person, & this includes movies. I just don't find it interesting most of the time to just sit there & watch; i'm always doing something else along with the TV being on. The exception is when in the theatre, not only because it's dark, but it's something that i actually want to see.
How many movies do you own?: Personally, probably fifteen movies.
How many TV shows (shows and/or number of seasons)?: The first season of Ghost Hunters, a Sailor Moon DVD, & a few Doctor Who DVDs (one Third Doctor; most are Fourth). First two Saiyuki DVDs, & a few other anime ones. Never a complete season.
Any other DVD watchables that are neither movies nor TV shows?: Imaginations Through the Looking Glass (Blind Guardian).
How often do you re-watch DVDs?: Depends. Not very often, though.
What’s your video equivalent of comfort food?: Probably Stardust (which i like a lot despite being vastly different from the book).
Have you ever read a book because the movie was really good?: No, don't think so. Usually will read the book before seeing the movie, so i know what really happens.
Have you ever read a book because the movie was really bad?: No.
Have you ever refused to see a movie because the book was really good? Really bad?: No.
Name a book that was made into a good movie, especially if you didn't think it could be done.: Usually don't think that, but I liked LotR, despite all the changes, even the ones that made no sense (Elves at Helm's Deep? Frodo showing the Nazgûl the Ring? Aragorn wavering when he looked into the Palatír (though, granted, you never know what happens there; it just doesn't seem like him)? Aragorn wavering all the time, period?).
Name a movie that you’d like to see re-made with your Dream Cast, and some key members of that cast.: Have no dream cast. I don't really pay too much attention to Names.
